Nalubaale Dam Extension

Project Description

The Nalubaale Dam extension project, funded by the International Development Association (IDA), was a critical infrastructure development undertaken by the Uganda Electricity Board. Completed in 2002, this project aimed to enhance the capacity and efficiency of the existing Nalubaale Dam, formerly known as the Owen Falls Dam, situated on the Nile River near Jinja, Uganda. The extension involved the construction of additional generating units, upgrading existing facilities, and implementing modern technologies to improve power generation and distribution. This project was crucial in addressing the growing electricity demand in Uganda, spurred by rapid urbanization and industrial growth, thereby stabilizing the national grid and reducing the frequency of power outages.
